Project One
Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter (T.R.A.C.S) is the shelter for Manchester, East Hartford. and South Windsor Animal Controls. This beautiful facility is located at 124 Sullivan Avenue in South Windsor.
We have worked closely with Brittany Fisher, Manchester ACO since May of 2024. In addition to providing supplies for the shelter, Brittany has also served as a consultant with the creation of the Go Fetch campaign, helping us to understand the core of the homeless dog crisis we are currently facing.
The shelter staff and the Animal Control Officers affiliated with that location are caring, compassionate, and devoted individuals who go above and beyond to care for the dogs (and cats) in their care while they are there. A fact of kennel life is that dogs spend upwards of 23 hours a day inside their kennels.
The issue of exercise becomes more challenging for dogs who are larger, stronger, and harder to control as it becomes also a safety concern for both the dog and the handler. A dog who get enough exercise is a dog who will likely adapt to shelter life more easily, be less stressed, and present themselves in a more enticing way when meeting with potential adopters.
Our first project is to install a commercial grade 150 foot zip line dog trolley system at T.R.A.C.S.
This 150 foot cable system will allow a dog freedom to run at their own pace for a distance. A commercial grade system will withstand the consistent and heavy usage, making repairs and down time minimal while ensuring the safety of the dogs and staff.
This commercial grade system will also allow for potential adopters to interact with the dog in an additional engaging way and create a fun distraction for the dog that will aid their overall health while minimizing stressors on both dog and humans.
Shelter living is challenging, but sometimes necessary. In addition to helping these facilities have the bare minimums we strive to fund the projects and upgrades that will make a significant difference in the overall well being of the animals housed there.
This project is pending final approvals but is not likely to encounter any obstacles in the approval process. A contractor is lined up for the work and the goal is to complete the install early Spring 2025. The budgeted amount for this project is $1,500 meaning we only need ten business sponsors to amply cover the costs.
